Pressure mounts to cut BBC governors' powers

Article Abstract:

The Commons' media select committee recommendation that Ofcom regulate the BBC and other commercial channels met with the approval of a majority of commercial broadcasters. The proposal also allows Ofcom to set rules on content standards and fairness in news, and to coordinate all broadcasting industry complaints.

Time to prune back BBC Online

Article Abstract:

The Department for Culture, Media & Sports is urging the BBC to provide an assessment of its online services. The department's Tessa Jowell intends to hire an independent review team within the next ten weeks to scrutinize the firm's online activities.
