Reply to Chris Schroll

Article Abstract:

Chris Schroll was right in his calls for dialogue but fails to realize that unregulated or unorganized speech deserves no audience. Perfect communication does not occur on the level of cocktail party talk, rather on a more philosophical level, where the speakers can be considered experts on their field. A distinction should be made between liberal democracy and community gossip. The US Constitutional convention's rules of procedure may be imperfect, however, communication in this venue is organized and basic freedoms are safeguarded.

Concordance, complexity, and conservatism: rejoinder to Condit

Article Abstract:

Writer Celeste Condit's points of view regarding hegemony theory have revealed fundamental misunderstandings that are interestingly debatable. Failing to acknowledge hegemony as a strategy of domination, namely, Marxist and feminist, means failing to provide critical analyses of class, culture, gender and race. These give rise to arguments on critical practice and its supporting theories around significant site of debate.
