Reuters and APTN fire first shots in agency war

Article Abstract:

Associated Press Television News' acquisition of Worldwide Television News in early-1998 has left the television news wire market with two players and a fear among some television industry customers that identical video footage supplies will result from the return of the alleged duopoly after a five-year hiatus. But in a Nov. 7 speech at the 1998 News World conference in Barcelona, executives of APTN and Reuters Television assured the entry of more original video footages mainly because of the emergence of a real competition with two players fighting to become the number one news agency in the market.
