SMG schedule enrages GBC

Article Abstract:

The Gaelic Broadcasting Committee (GBC) has sought the assistance of the Independent Television Commission over a disagreement with the Scottish Media Group (SMG) regarding the change of schedule of the Gaelic-funded "Eilean Eile (Another Ireland)." The program was moved mid-series from 19.30 Thursday to 18.10 Sunday, a time slot that GBC claims is not high-profile enough. GBC likewise claims that the Sunday time slot is likely to go out when many potential program viewers are at the church. A spokesman for SMG, who reported that talks on the timeslot are ongoing, said the company, as a commercial broadcaster, has a duty to offer viewers a varied program schedule.

C4 catches Sharman for Test contract

Article Abstract:

Channel 4 (C4) has commissioned Mark Sharman, formerly deputy head of Sky Sports, to handle its sports programming including its recently acquired live cricket coverage as controller of sport. Sharman, which will replace Mike Miller who resigned as C4's commissioning editor, said the live cricket Test matches in the UK is key to his decision to accept the C4 position. Sharman will be assigned to directly oversee the cricket Test matches in contrast to his former position in Sky that focuses more in program production.
