Article Abstract:

Granada had no experience at all of lifestyle programming when it won the contract to produce a new network morning show in the late 1980s. However, its This Morning show has proved extremely popular, proving wrong those who criticised it initially for being trivial. This show has dealt with a number of very controversial issues, and has instigated some very successful television campaigns. It is clear that lifestyle programming has a strong future in the UK.

Article Abstract:

The Independent Television broadcasting organisation of Britain would benefit remarkably by encouraging the original and varied work of its creative professionals, says talent manager Jon Thoday. It should concentrate on long-term projects using expert skills rather than work which will satisfy its financial objectives within the foreseeable future. British talent should be viewed within the industry as the most important saleable commodity.
