Sky 1 receives GBP1 million revamp

Article Abstract:

BSkyB has invested over 1 million pounds sterling to establish a new identity for its entertainment channel Sky 1 and boost brand loyalty of the channel, which has been losing audience share during the past years. BSkyB will boost its budget for original programming and vowed to match the budgets allocated by terrestrial network on entertainment shows. Sky 1's budget for original programming increased to about 20 million pounds sterling in 1997 from 12 million pounds sterling in 1996. The restructure at Sky 1 will increase original productions and short programming 'vignettes' in its schedule by 15% to 20%.

World and BSkyB strike movie deal

Article Abstract:

World Productions has announced it won a deal to produce three made-for-television movies for BSkyB, a satellite broadcaster. BSkyB head of programing James Baker said the transaction with World Productions is likely to end up in two projects, which will be backed with budgets of more than 3.5 million pounds sterling each. The movies will appear on BSkyB's movie channels and will be handled by the newly established division called Sky Movies Originals, which oversees BSkyB's move into original film production.The three films will be composed of a romantic comedy, a biopic and one with a more global appeal.
