Storecasting

Article Abstract:

Advertisers who air radio stations in their stores may have to pay ASCAP or BMI license fees for rebroadcasting the station. However, stores may qualify for a reimbursement exemption if they meet certain criteria. Small retailers may qualify for this exemption more easily than large national chains. Until pending congressional action is taken on this issue, stores should get the rebroadcast licenses in order to protect themselves from infringement suits.

FCC applications - processing

Article Abstract:

Applications to the Federal Communications Commission for licensing assignments or transfer of control can be delayed while a petition to deny is being investigated. If no complaints are filed, the process can take about 70 days once the application is presented. Generally, the Mass Media Bureau grants the application and the full commission concurs with the grant.
