TVEs abuse of youth

Article Abstract:

Annually about 45,000 media students who graduate into a very tiny number of jobs are ready to work for free or for low pay or 12-hour workdays just to hang on in the industry. Work experience being the only basis for entry into the industry, Television and Young People (TVYP) have introduced a scheme where 13 candidates are interviewed for six month placements at a minimum guaranteed wage. Pact has a voluntary work experience code of practice, while the industry regulator Ofcom is to publish results of a public consultation to improve performance with objectives set by the industry (with Skillset) and measured by an independent board.
