Obeying the rules of engagement

Article Abstract:

There is likely to be some takeover and amalgamation activity in the UK following the introduction of new intra- and cross-media ownership rules in Nov 1996. The new regime will serve to intensify pressure on media companies to become larger, as they will increasingly need greater power in areas including bargaining, negotiating and buying. However, widespread changes in the broadcasting industry will not take place until the restrictions on cross-media ownership are relaxed even further.
