Television dependency in Independent Kazakhstan: Programming via relay, import and adaptation

Article Abstract:

Russia acts as a sub-franchiser in redistributing TV programs to Kazakhstan as they have very little program production of their own. A national policy placing increasing emphasis on Kazak-ization of media has triggered demand for localized programming and that in turn has encouraged dubbing and adaptation of successful regional and global programs of Russia, rather than production of local originals.
