The belly dancer strategy: Israeli educational television and its alternatives

Article Abstract:

The introduction of an educational television service in 1966 was seen by the Israeli government as a way of drawing Israelis from watching television broadcast by neighboring Arab countries. The Israeli public believed the dull educational programming would be no competition for more exciting Arab programming.

On and off the air: Radio-listening experiences in the San Vittore prison

Article Abstract:

The article explores the use of radio and the rules and regulations pertaining to it in the District Penitentiary of San Vittore, Milan, Italy. It was found that 60 percent of the detainees listen to music programs and the remaining listen to news and discussion programs.
