Time to move on

Article Abstract:

Makers of documentary soap (docu-soap) television programmes point out they are not only entertaining viewers but they also show how other British people live and work. They are inexpensive to produce but need careful editing. Some of the ideas in docu-soaps have led to the production of drama programmes. Many media critics are dismissive of docu-soaps suggesting they are tedious and accuse the producers of making more docu-soaps because they are less costly. Television viewers seem to like docu-soaps which often manage to get a 35% share of the audience when they are broadcast.
