To protect and serve: the 'guard dog' function of journalism in coverage of the Japanese-American internment

Article Abstract:

This article analyzes the changes that occurred in the print media's coverage of events relating to Japanese-Americans during the period between the bombing of Pearl Harbor and Japanese-American internment, from 1941- 1942. Several large newspapers from this time period are examined to test the hypothesis of the "guard dog" function of the press in times of political upheaval.

"All our kids get better jobs tomorrow": the North American Free Trade Agreement in 'The New York Times'

Article Abstract:

The New York Times, in most of the over 300 articles published since 1993, often mentioned support for the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) from the Clinton administration and the private sector. The Times's treatment of NAFTA opposition was often encased within personalized narratives that avoided substantive analysis.

Article Abstract:

The press coverage of the Falklands War in US and Latin American newspapers is compared. Examining coverage of this war shows how images of the other inform the news reporting of countries with very different polictical and economic structures.
