View from the top; with Marcus Plantin completing his first year in his old job as programme director, LWT has regained something of the 'family' feel of old

Article Abstract:

LWT's Marcus Plantin, has focused on changing the culture at the British TV broadcasting company during his first year as director of programmes. Some say Plantin is trying to recreate the "family" atmosphere LWT had before being acquired by Granada in 1993. Plantin also strives to be entrepreneurial and has partnered the company with US production firm LMNO. He is thinking of creating a group within LWT to focus on ideas targeted at the international market. Plantin's low-cost, high-volume programming venture, The Lab, will introduce its first series, "Nightlife," in March 1999.
