Surviving the five Ds: a writer struggles with the emotional aftermath of covering brutality in Africa

Article Abstract:

A journalist describes the emotional consequences of covering war and human disaster in Africa. Topics include seeing hundreds of murdered victims in Rwanda, the experience of her colleagues at refugee camps in Goma, and the difficulty in making the transition to life in the US after the war experiences.
