Why is Sky's tightening of its EPG rules so sensitive?

Article Abstract:

Sky has closed its electronic program guide (EPG), amidst EPG slot prices rising above 250,000 pounds sterling. Meanwhile, Michael Grade's announcement that he wants BSkyB out of ITV has led to the company's share price to dip to 91p and has fallen further to 86.2p on November 12, 2007. The EPG marketplace and ITV's falilng stocks are discussed.

The growing number of entertainment channels on U.K. digital television is increasing the demand for U.S. comedy and drama just as American industry is going through a lean patch. With only a few decent TV comedy series being made in the US, the UK channels are suffering as the returns by way of revenue are constantly diminishing.
