Wild gamble?

Article Abstract:

Some observers believe that the 20 million pounds sterling production and distribution deal between Carlton Television and National Geographic Television could present a serious threat to the BBC's Natural History Unit, which has a very strong international reputation. Carlton also regards the deal as a way of responding to the BBC's alliance with Discovery Communications. The deal will involve more than 300 hours of factual programming in the period to 2001, and Carlton regards it as having long-term potential, even though the initial budget is quite low.
