American dreamer

Article Abstract:

The BBC has had a number of failed attempts to establish a presence in the US, where it has operated for many years as an exporter of programming but has not created its own channels. However, many observers now believe that 1997 will be the year in which the BBC finally makes a breakthrough in the US. This follows the signing in Sep 1996 of a global alliance with cable concern Tele-Communications, which could allow the BBC to obtain cable carriage for a range of channels.
