College choice and wages: estimates using data on female twins

Article Abstract:

The influence of college quality on the wages of women and the effect of family and individual characteristics on the choice of college are investigated. Data from a survey of identical and non-identical twins born in Minnesota within the period 1936-1955 performed in May 1994 are analyzed. Results show that students with significantly higher wages in later life came from private universities granting doctor of philosophy degrees and having smaller enrollments and well-paid senior faculty.

Free agency, long-term contracts and compensation in major league baseball: estimates from panel data

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the impact of free agency eligibility or arbitration on a baseball player's compensation and contract duration is presented. Longitudinal data based on Major League Baseball players were applied for the analysis. It is shown that arbitration and the free agent system positively affected annual compensation. However, the effect on contract duration is conditioned by player movements.
