Patterns of intergenerational mobility in income and earnings

Article Abstract:

Matching parent/child data from the US National Longitudinal Surveys are used to analyze intergenerational mobility with regard to income and earnings. Parents' income has little effect on their children's future financial status. However, a degree of earnings mobility is evident, especially with regard to daughters. The results suggest that family income, father's education, number of siblings, mother's work status, and race are some determinants of mobility across generations.

Export incentives, exchange rate policy and export growth in Turkey

Article Abstract:

An analysis describing the export boom in Turkey is presented. The Turkish export miracle was generated by several dynamic variables. The excess of Middle East import growth over growth in other areas generated negative effects. Exports to non-oil countries have no impact on the growth process. In general, the boom was generated by sound macroeconomic policies and trade reform which conditioned Lira depreciation.

Inter-vivos transfers and intergenerational exchange

Article Abstract:

The altruistic and exchange motives of intergenerational transfer have been the focus of vigorous debate during the 1980s. However, an investigation of data from the National Survey of Families and Households reveals that transfers between living persons are more consistent with the exchange motive than with the altruism motive.
