Fundamentals of materials management systems

Article Abstract:

Adequate internal accounting and administrative controls should be present in materials management systems to ensure system and data integrity. Dysfunctional customer service, inventory levels and profitability may result if basic controls are not ensured. Twenty-five elements providing a framework for evaluation and auditing of materials management systems were discussed. These elements may be adopted or modified to suit the needs of the company. The company should define what standards are acceptable and it should also establish a clear process for monitoring compliance.
