AN/PAQ-4C and AN/PEQ-2A BZO procedures

Article Abstract:

Obtaining an accurate battle zero (BZO) on night vision devices, such as the AN/PAQ-4C and the AN/PEQ-2A, is an important step toward effective night operations. The basic tool in the zeroing process is the technical manual, which every position safety officer should have to ensure an accurate BZO. The zeroing process for the AN/PAQ-4C and the AN/PEQ-2A is the same and is consists of altering the actual BZO targets, establishing a mechanical zero, using the bore sight filter and assuming a shooting position.

Off-the-shelf technology can be applied today

Article Abstract:

Commercial off-the-shelf technologies for military operations are already available on the market. Manufacturers have designed global positioning systems (GPS) and single-channel ground and airborne radio systems precisely for improving communications and information. The combination of a GPS and a hand-held radio gives battlefield participants the ability to establish an accurate picture of current conditions that can be immediately relayed to the entire command.

'Turn out the lights, the party's over': training, fighting, and winning in ther IR spectrum - a case study

Article Abstract:

The US Marine Corps should take advantage of the numerous benefits offered by current night enhancement devices by providing its ground force combat training on this weapons. With the emergence of infrared equipment, Marines' horizons have been broadened beyond their ability to see at night to include targeting, signaling and identifying friend or foe. Some of these devices include the PAQ-4C, the PEQ-2 and the ground commander's pointer.
