Article Abstract:

The 2006 defense authorization bill to be passed by the US senate and the House would include a 3.1 percent military pay rise, plus a higher ceiling on bonuses and special pays. Defense expenditure, under both House and Senate versions of the bill, would be pegged to $441.6 billion, $22.3 billion more than sought by the George W. Bush Administration and $21 billion more than the amount contained in the Fiscal 2005 defense budget.

Article Abstract:

The Congress has delayed the 2005 defense authorization until 2007 the next round of base realignment and closure (BRAC) action. The key personnel initiatives are stalled and the current Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) educational benefit rate for reservists will be increased depending on the length of continuous active duty service.
