Algeria doubles purchase of Russian antiship missiles

Article Abstract:

Algeria's Navy will be receivving 96 Russian Kh-35 Uran antiship missiles in 2000 instead of the 46 that was previously reported. Algerian vessels will be fitted with Uran batteries that will each have 16 missiles in four sets of quadruple canisters. Initially, 48 missiles will be fitted to three vessels and will be followed by a second consignment of the remaining missiles to the other three ships. The missiles are built at the Zvezda-Strela complex near Moscow, Russia.

Taiwan seeks to acquiire Aegis ships from U.S

Article Abstract:

The Republic of China Navy on Taiwan is planning to acquire four Aegis destroyers from the US in reaction to news that the People's Liberation Army-Navy on Mainland China will purchase Russian Project 956A Sovremennyy-class destroyers and 3M80E supersonic antiship missiles. However, US suppliers will find it difficult to comply with the planned purchase of Aegis destroyers due to US restrictions on technology transfer.

China's missile options for Russian-built DDs

Article Abstract:

The People's Liberation Army-Navy of China may acquire the Yakhont supersonic anti-ship missile for its Project 956A Sovremennyy-class destroyers to be acquired from Russia. The Chinese Navy is also considering a plan to deploy Ka-28 helicopters in the destroyers. Currently, the navy deploys two Project 035 Ming-type diesel-electric submarines to enhance its force operations.
