BAe announces batch 2 KDX CMS deal with Korea

Article Abstract:

British Aerospace's defense systems group received a GBP46 mil contract from Samsung Electronics Corp for combat management systems to be used in three Batch 2 KDX destroyers of the South Korean Navy. The combat management system's contract provides for databus terminals, CMS software that integrates the different electronic warfare systems and navigation systems and CMS hardware chipsets. The new combat systems are expected to enhance anti-air and submarine capabilities of the warships.

South Korea selects KDX-2 guns

Article Abstract:

United Defense LP has been chosen to supply 3 MK 45 Mod 4 5in/62-calibre lighweight gun system (LGS) to the Republic of Korea Navy (RoKN). The $22- million co-production contract was awarded through Kia Heavy Industries Corp, the prime contractor for the LGS, in Dec 1999. The Mod 4, which is expected to be delivered between 2001 and 2003, represents the first major US gun system to be sourced by the RoKN for its KDX-2 guided missile destroyers.

Finland to get heavyweight hovercraft prototype

Article Abstract:

Aker Finnyards will deliver a $12.3-million prototype multipurpose next- generation hovercraft to the Finnish Navy in Sep 2001. The 27.4-m 84-ton, aluminum and reinforced composite prototype will have a maxiumum speed of 50 kt, two 4,500 kW diesel engines and four gas turbines. The hovercraft may be equipped with missiles, mines, torpedoes or anti-aircraft system, depending on the mission profile.
