Canada's 'next level': New Special Operations Group expands forces, missions

Article Abstract:

The Canadian military has created for the first time a separate umbrella organization for special units and plans to boost the size and scope of its special operations forces and give them a role in almost every overseas operation in which it becomes involved. The newly created Special Operations Group will bring together expanded land, air and maritime assets under one senior commander.

Article Abstract:

The US Special Operations Command (SOCom) is seeking advice from private sector on ways to win the war of ideas in its battle against terrorism. SOCom has selected SYColeman Inc., Lincoln Group and Science Applications International Corp. for information campaigns and also to support its Joint Psychological Operations Support Element (JPSE) as well as other government agencies.

Lighter armored vehicles

Article Abstract:

The Canadian Army is opting for wheeled armored vehicles instead of tracked systems in order to meet its goal of transforming into a medium-weight force. The transformation plan will see the Leopard replaced by the US-built Mobile Gun System (MGS), a TOW-under-armor system outfitted on a wheeled armor chassis and a Multi-Mission Effects Vehicles (MMEV).
