China's first Sovremenny leaves for home

Article Abstract:

A Russian-manufactured guided missile destroyer, the first of two such orders, has set sail for the People's Republic of China in Jan 2000. The Sovremenny class 'Hangzhou' will be the newest and most capable addition to the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) and is seen as a vital component of its power projection capability in the Asian region. The 'Hangzhou' and its sister ship, which is set to be delivered in late 2000, will provide air-defense capability to the PLAN.

China looks to second Song class for solution

Article Abstract:

Wuhan Shipyard has produced the second Song-class diesel electric patrol submarine (SSK) that the Chinese government hopes will answer its need for a combat ready SSK combining domestic and foreign technology. The Song 321 will join the Song 320 and is scheduled to begin sea trials later in 1999 after being fitted. The Song 321 was supposed to have been completed in 1998 and series production of its clas was supposed to have commenced in 1999.

China accepts final Sovremenny-class destroyer

Article Abstract:

The People's Liberation Army Navy's (PLAN's) second and final Project 956EM Sovremenny-class destroyer is officially accepted by the People's Republic of China by signing the certificate of acceptance. The ship will depart for its new East Sea Fleet home-port of Dinghai in early October 2007.
