Clash of armor: US-German struggle for control of Santa Barbara involves wider stakes

Article Abstract:

Santa Barbara, Spain's combat vehicle and munition supplier, in Apr 2000 was reported to have been acquired by General Dynamics (GD) of Falls Church, VA, beating a competing offer by Rheinmetall and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) of Germany. The report prompted the German companies to counter the acquisition for fear of their technology falling into the hands of their US rival. Also, the agreement between Santa Barbara and GD also strained relations between Spain and Germany.
