Council-sponsored ship commissionings - upholding a centuries-old tradition

Article Abstract:

The support given to the U.S.' sea services by the Navy League councils is seen as their tradition of sponsoring the ship-commissioning ceremonies along with other services like adopting ships and units ashore, assisting armed forces and assisting armed force recruiters. The Navy League councils are responsible for funding receptions before and after the commissioning, production and presentation of the ship's plague, and supporting the various scheduled media events.
