Defence against biological, chemical and radiological attacks: The technology way forward

Article Abstract:

The Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is aggressively assessing the protection of soldiers on the battlefield, as well as the protection of high-value buildings from both chemical and biological attack through a number of programmes. Over the past two years, the programme has led to the development of high-efficiency agent filtration and neutralization technologies for a broad range of agents which include chemical and biological sensor-activated HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) control systems.

TARS - Manned Tactical Recce is back

Article Abstract:

The last RF-4C Phantom IIs, the last manned tactical reconnaissance assets, were retired by the US Air National Guard in 1995. The Department of Defense had foreseen that UAV's and satellites would be the intelligence gatherers of the future. The digital recce system known as AN/ASD-11 TARS will be used in reconnaissance.
