Dragon drone deployment tests corps' UAV capabilities

Article Abstract:

The US Marine Corp is deploying ten tactical Dragon Drone Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in its 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit. The Dragon Drone UAVs are commercial-off-the-shelf products used for communications jamming operations. The UAVs features speeds of 80 mph, sensors, jammers and cameras with laser rangefinders . The drones are also equipped with global positioning systems and a forward looking infrared camera (FLIR). They are expected to provide the Marine unit with surveillance and reconnaisance information.

Boeing rolls out JSF demonstrators

Article Abstract:

Seattle, WA-based Boeing Co has unveiled its X-32 military joint strike fighter (JSF) prototype demonstration aircraft at its Palmdale, CA, plant. Boeing's X-32A will demonstrate the naval carrier-based conventional takeoff and landing version of the JSF planned for the Navy while the X- 32B will demonstrate the short takeoff/vertical landing planned for the Marine Corp and the UK's Royal Navy and Royal Air Force. Flight testing of the X-32 is planned for spring 2000.

Boeing Super Hornet passes 4,000-hour milestone

Article Abstract:

Boeing Co's seven Super Hornets have accumulated over 4,000 flight hours in its three-year development program, shortly following the company's receipt of a contract modification on 30 Super Hornets. The Super Hornet flight-test director, Capt Robert O Wirt, expressed that the aircraft was able to attain every milestone that was briefed seven years prior and that operational evaluation is expected to be on schedule.
