"Influencing events ashore"

Article Abstract:

The US Navy's DD 21 land-attack destroyer will feature the electric-drive propulsion and integrated power system the service has been pursuing for many years. The revolutionary propulsion system will allow the US Navy's first 21st century warship to be much stealthier and operated with a smaller crew. The first ship is expected to be delivered in 2010, with initial operating capability scheduled for 2011.

NAVSEA will conduct technical evaluation and operational tests of the Mk54 in fiscal years 2001 and 2002.
