Encouraging innovation

Article Abstract:

The US Special Operations Command is looking for small companies pursuing in innovative technologies that might give special operations forces a greater fighting edge. The development of SmartSight, a miniature camera system that allows a shooter to accurately aim and fire a weapon around corners, is one of the most successful funding initiatives of SOCom's SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research).

Acquisition for the information age: Mass customization must replace mass production

Article Abstract:

Pentagon's defense acquisition system lacks flexibility and the link between research and development required for information-age operations. Congress is thus imposing cost caps on Navy ship construction and is issuing new restrictions limiting what can be procured using development funds.
