The lightweight howitzer: only a lightweight solution

Article Abstract:

The Marine Corps plans to field the towed lightweight howitzer to support ground forces during an operation maneuver from the sea. However, self-propelled artillery would be more mobile and responsive.

Expeditionary fire support: what is it? Expeditionary fires for the future battlefield need to be lighter and more mobile than existing Marine artillery pieces

The author believes that the expeditionary nature of modern warfare requires artillery fire support equipment that is more mobile than current equipment. He calls for the creation of a new expeditionary fire support system that fulfills those requirements.
