Global ambitions

Article Abstract:

The possibility of China, which has taken major steps in global trade, working up its second aircraft carrier battle group and equipping its airborne army with the latest class of strategic transport by the end of China's12th five-year plan, is very high. East Asian political analysts are of the opinion that China would be forced to extend its ambitions beyond the Taiwan to ensure that its trade and oil-supply routes are never hampered.

Roles and missions: Defining the basics of transformation

Article Abstract:

Changes in national circumstances gives rise to transformation in a nation's armed forces. Such transformations are highly contentious and have profound political consequences and it is imperative that all parties involved should have a clear understanding of what the mission is, how it will be accomplished, who will play the leading and supporting roles, and how best can functions be consolidated.
