Ersatz silver bullets

Article Abstract:

The US stockpile of guided missiles continue to be vulnerable to low-tech frequency jammers. These 'smart' missiles include the Enhanced GBU-15, JDAM, ATACMS, the GPS-equipped Harpoon, SLAM-ER, AGM-130, the Enhanced HARM and the Enhanced JSOW. This jamming problem, which could cause the precision-strike missiles to miss their intended targets, has been ignored largely because of cost considerations and the belief that the next generation of guided missiles will be immune to such problems.

High-tech "Sky Barge."

Article Abstract:

The US Army is studying the feasibility of using the Semi-Rigid Deployable Wing Medium (SDW-M) system designed to deliver up to 5,000 pounds of supplies to ground forces up to 190 miles away. The SDW-M, or Sky Barge, is deployable from the rear of a C-130 transport aircraft. Sky Barge is also envisioned to sport a quiet motor to allow it to ferry Special Operations Forces soldiers and their equipment to a distant landing point. While expendable, the system technically can also be reusable, said a program official.
