Integrated platform management systems

Article Abstract:

The integration of multiple platform systems and functions in one Integrated Platform Management (IPM) Systems has opened the way to Multi-Function Workstations that are no longer restricted to only one particular system or function. The development in IPM Systems are the integration with other onboard systems, such as Integrated Bridge Systems, Close Circuit Television, fire and NBC detection systems and combat systems.

The diesel engine: Developments for merchant and naval vessels surveyed

Article Abstract:

The major steps from the first diesel engine to the present day's state-of-the-art diesel engines for ship propulsion and also their future developments are discussed. The major influences on the further development of marine engines include gas, increasing ship sizes and transport capacity, international and local emission limit, fuel versatility and steadily increasing shipbuilding capacities.

Part II: The sea based asymmetric warfare ship (SAWS)

Article Abstract:

The study presents a possible asymmetrical threat spectrum at sea and from sea with its diversity and multiplicity. A description on weaknesses of the conventional warship against the new threat, capability profile required to deal with the threat and the underlying operational philosophy for KDZ-2012 are presented.
