Kabila breaks with past to welcome UN

Article Abstract:

Joseph Kabila, the new president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, has broken with the example of his father and allowed United Nations forces into the country. As a result, the 2000 Harare Disengagement and Redeployment Plan has gone into effect, and foreign and rebel troops have pulled back.

Territorial issues may undermine Sudan peace agreement

The implications of the concluded Sudan peace agreement and efforts to resolve the crisis in the western province of Dafur are presented. The civil war terminated on 26 May 2004 when three protocols was signed by the government of Sudan and the Sudan PeopleEs Liberation Movement (SPLM).

Sudan is a country that is suffering through an ongoing civil war, and it also is a country that has extremely rich oil reserves. The oil and the war have been inexorably linked, leading to widespread human rights violations.
