King Carl XVI Gustaf to launch Swedish Visby corvette

Article Abstract:

Sweden will be the venue of two major naval events in June 2000, the NAVY 2000 exhibition and the multinational exercise BALTOPS 2000. NAVY 2000 will provide a technical and tactical/strategic symposium and an exhibition of naval systems by 20 companies the majority of which are Swedish. Among the naval ships to be demonstrated are the Landsort class MCM vessel, the Styrsoe class minesweeper and the Gotland class submarine. The main event of the exhibition is the launching of the first of 6 YS 2000 class Stealth Visby corvettes by King Carl XVI Gustaf.

'Visby' Class corvette: Core system for the extreme littorals

Article Abstract:

Rear Admiral Anders Grenstad, the Royal Swedish Navy's Commander in Chief, expounds on the organization, concept and evaluation of the Visby class corvettes that play a key role in littoral areas. The different missions of these stealth corvettes include conducting ASuW, ASW, MCM, and Surveillance and the RADM Grenstad predicts that the Visby corvettes will evolve as the core ship in the Swedish Navy's Surface Warfare Fleet.
