Major equipment selections announced for Type 45

Article Abstract:

BAE Systems has announced an extensive range of contracts and equipment supplier selections for major subsystems. The company is the prime contractor for the UK Royal Navy's new Type 45 destroyers. Some $367- million worth of systems contracts have been awarded for the first batch of three ships. Under a 1.2-billion pound sterling Demonstration for Manufacture contract, BAE is responsible for the design, development and delivery of the ships, along with elements of support.

New offshore patrol vessels for Royal Navy

Article Abstract:

Vosper Thornycroft (VT) will deliver three new offshore patrol vessels to the UK Royal Navy in a ground-breaking $85.7-million contract. The new agreement calls for the replacement of the five Island-class vessels that currently patrol the coastal waters by three Future Offshore Patrol Vessels that the shipbuilder will lease to the Ministry of Defence for five years. Also, VT will be responsible for supporting them in service.

Ripple effect: Royal Navy divers extend their role

The UK Royal Navy's Fleet Diving Squadron's roles, regardless of being limited in terms of numbers, are expanding into new areas as it is using state-of-art technology to accomplish them. Force protection role is becoming increasingly central to all diving units.
