Naval power 21: U.S. Navy-After-Next

Article Abstract:

The U.S. Navy requires an additional $3.5 billion over last years budget for a program called the Navy-After-Next. The program requires the construction of seven new ships, procurement of 100 additional aircraft, continuation of development of the CVN-21 next-generation aircraft carrier, the DD(X) next generation destroyer, the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), two additional SSBN-to-SSGN conversions, the Advanced Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAAV) for the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC), the Joint Strike Fighter, V-22 OSPREY and HAWKEYE (E-2C).

The US decision to delay deployment of the Bell/Boeing V-22 Osprey imperils the international community's plans for the Osprey's versatile systems, which can replace at least five other types of aircraft.
