Navy, Congress spar over next-generation ship technology

Article Abstract:

The US NavyEs plan to build two new surface combatants is accepted by some House lawmakers who are concerned with lack of consensus on the size of the NavyEs future fleet and its impact on an increasingly anemic shipbuilding industrial base. However, the Navy must convince some in Congress of the advantages of spiral development, the incremental integration of new technologies as ships are built.

USS Florida adoption highlights Palm Beach Navy Ball

Article Abstract:

The formal adoption of the former ballistic-missile submarine (SSBN) USS Florida, which is being converted into a guided-missile submarine (SSGN) configuration, was the main highlight at the annual Navy Ball of the Palm Beach Council (Florida) at the Palm Beach Gardens Marriott Hotel. The proceedings of the Navy Ball are reported.
