Navy awaits decision on targeting pods

Article Abstract:

The US Navy is awaiting the decision of the top Navy official who is examining the review panel's report on the various targeting pod systems that are used by military fighter aircrafts. The Navy is committed to Raytheon's Advanced Targeting Forward Looking Infrared (ATFLIR) pod for its F/A-18 Super Hornet and Hornet fleets, but the Air Force is using Lockheed Martin's Sniper Extended Rangepod and the Marine Corps are using Northrop Grumman's LITENING series.

Unmanned future

Article Abstract:

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have become a critical part of the US military operations and the Pentagon believes that the unmanned aerial systems (UAS) will be replacing manned combat aircraft in the near future. The anticipated future of UAVs is documented in 'Unmanned Aircraft Systems Roadmap, 2005-2030,' a 213-page document released in August 2005 by the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

The eNaval Aviation in the 21st CenturyE meeting presided by Vice Adm. John Nathman, deputy chief of naval operations for warfare requirements and programs discussed on issue of time-critical targeting as new naval aviation technology with reference to joint operations. The officials feel that one of the most visible fields for joint operations is in unmanned aerial vehicles.
