Litton Ingalls, Lucent Tech collaborate on smart ships

Article Abstract:

The Ingalls Division of Litton Ship System has formed a partnership with Lucent Technologies Inc to jointly develop a 'break-through communications-technology applications' for Navy ships. Under the terms of the deal, Ingalls will provide the expertise in robotics, ship design and production and fabrication using advanced materials while Lucent is in- charge of providing expertise in communications and data networking and in wireless, optical and Internet technologies.

Ingalls christens Aegis DDG Preble; Mason's launch ends era at Bath

Article Abstract:

The Preble and Mason Arleigh Burke-class Aegis guided-missile destroyers were christened in Jun 2001. The Preble, made at Ingalls Shipbuilding, will be commissioned in 2002. The christening of the Mason was significant in that it was the last ship launched down an inclined way by the manufacturer, Bath Iron Works. Future ships made at Bath will be built on a land-level transfer facility.

New Burke DDG christened at NGSS Ingalls honors Hawaiian hero of Pacific campaign

Article Abstract:

The latest Arleigh Burke-class Aegis guided-missile destroyer (DDG) is christened in honor of a U.S. Navy flag officer who fought the ferocious kamikaze attacks during the Okinawa campaign in 1945. DDG 93, a flight IIA Burke hull built by Northrop Grumman Ship Systems (NGSS) Ingalls Operations, was named Chung Hoon in honor of Rear Adm. Gordon P. Chung-Hoon.
