New gear grinding equipment for GE Marine Engines

Article Abstract:

GE Marine Engines has installed a new CNC form grinding equipment at its plant in Lynn, MA. The new grinding equipment, which will enable the use of a CBN cutting wheel technology for profiling grind marine gearing, will replace the one installed in the 1980s. The company has also installed a new CNC gear inspection machine to be used in tandem with the new grinder to assure quality gearing. The first pieces to be produced by the new equipment will be high speed pinions and gears for the US Navy's DDG destroyer program.
