Oerlikon launches naval combat system

Article Abstract:

A naval combat system for fast patrol boats, offshore patrol vessels and larger auxiliary vessels, known as the Seaguard mini-combat system, was launched by Oerlikon Contraves (Zurich, Switzerland) in the MECON 2006 conference in Hamburg. The system is based on Oerlikon's 35 mm GDM008 Millennium naval gun combined with advanced search and fire control radars, which include the 3-D search radar X-TAR 3D and the TMX Mk 2 and TMK Mk 2 tracking radars.

EADS piggybacks on Hoefyster

Article Abstract:

EADS is preparing to mount an assault on the South African land command-and-control (C2) systems market, on the back of its candidate for the South African National Defence Force's Hoefyster next-generation infantry combat vehicle (NGICV) requirement. This Modular Combat Vehicle (MCV) took center stage on the Denel stand at the Africa Aerospace and Defence 2004 show.

Thunderbolt light tank unveiled

United Defense LP (UDLP) has unveiled Thunderbolt, a 120mm smoothbore-armed derivative of its M8 Armored Gun System (AGS). The Thunderbolt demonstrator has the ability to deliver devastating firepower in a light package, and features transformational technologies that could be quickly integrated into existing platforms to enhance soldier capabilities
