South Korean Navy: Transformation to provide new capabilities

Article Abstract:

The Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy-Marine forces have made extensive progress towards a future regional naval force that is based on the newest technologies and an expanded input from indigenous shipbuilding and suppliers. The ROK Navy (ROKN) entered the Mid-Term Defense Plan (MTDP) 2005-2009 in 2005 and some of it's main priorities are completion of DDX-2 Batch 2 destroyers, fund three units of the KDX-3 programme, and initiate the new FFX replacement programme.
