Syria treads carefully in changing neighbourhood

Article Abstract:

Damascus is under increased pressure to withdraw its troops from Lebanon and reconsider it's backing for insurgents in Iraq and the Occupied Territories after the US imposed its economic sanctions against Syria. The involvement of US in Lebanon, Iraq and Israel is presenting insurmountable problems in Damascus, and Syria would have to navigate the political waters in the region with greater caution.

Syria shifts policy as sanctions loon

Article Abstract:

Syria's positions relating to national defense and cohesion, Arab co-ordination and solidarity, and the need to reclaim occupied Arab land as part of a 'comprehensive and just peace' settlement with Israel remain unchanged, while it is reconsidering its relationship with the USA. The shift is in part due to the combination of increased tension that compels Syria to revise its policy position.
