The F-22 out front

Article Abstract:

The F-22 Raptor is being designed to gain air supremacy in the future, akin to that enjoyed by the F-15 in the past several years. Slated to be introduced early in the next decade amid the launch of other new-generation fighters such as the French Rafale, Russian Su-37 and EF2000, the F-22 is built to have stealth capabilities that equal or exceed that of the F-117, while carrying substantial attack muscle that is manifested in its payload of two 1,000-pound Joint Direct Attack Munitions, or possibly four to eight miniature smart bombs. The Quadrennial Defense Review calls for a planned inventory of 339 F-22 Raptors, and while the US Congress has placed a $40.9-billion program cost cap, military officials are confident that the F-22 can overcome the air threats in the next decades to come.

21st century warthog

Article Abstract:

The A-10 Thunderbolt II, popularly known as Warthog employs a variety of munitions with advanced technology, enhanced navigation capabilities, and the Low-Altitude Safety and Targeting Enhancement (LASTE) system. The Warthog unit's flexibility to work closely with Army ground forces and USAF battlefield airmen and its adaptability towards new technology have made A-10 effective for combat in the 21st century.
