There are alternatives to the heliport plan

Article Abstract:

A mobile floating facility can serve as a good alternative to the current plans for a sea-based American military heliport off the coast of the city of Nago in Okinawa, Japan. A mobile floating facility could be disassembled upon the approach of a typhoon and could employ special detachable platforms containing hospitals, food preparation, electric power generation, water-pumping stations, and the like for short-term disaster relief. A mobile facility can also be quickly moved to provide help during disaster and famine situations in other distant areas.

Night training recommendations

Article Abstract:

The lessons Battalion Landing Team (BLT) 3/6 learned during night operations training and exercises can be applied directly to potential combat situations. Some of the recommendations that may be of benefit to others include using the night vision devices, identifying who is carrying AN/PVS-14s, procurement of the Ground Commanders Pointers by every battalion, issuance of the AN/PEQ-2A to every battallion, using the AN/PAQ-4C or its replacement and purchase of proper mounts for the AN/PAQ- 4C by the Marine Corps.
